AMCC SAAC COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT A SUCCESS

SAAC members from four AMCC institutions collected a truck load plus a trailer-full of sporting equipment for elementary schools in Louisiana still struggling to recover from Hurrican Katrina.  Their efforts, coordinated by Frostburg State University SAAC advisor Troy Strieby, were met with open and grateful arms.

"They are amazing with what they have to work with [in Louisiana], but they have been forgotten," said Strieby.   "Fundraisers and collections that will help in finding used band equipment, school books, library books, and sporting equipment are all needed.  We can  really  make a difference  here."  He emphasized that even a bag of equipment made a difference to an alternative school that did not have any sports equipment for two full years.

The collection effort came from an idea at a conference SAAC meeting to find a way to "give back" in celebrating the AMCC's tenth anniversary this past year.  SAACs at four member schools chose to participate:  Frostburg State, La Roche College, University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, and Penn State Behrend.
