LA ROCHE PICKED TO REPEAT
AS AMCC CHAMPS
 


La Roche College has been chosen by the AMCC baseball coaches as the team most likely to win the conference title, successfully defending the crown they earned for the first time in 2012.  Four-time champion Penn St. Behrend was picked to finish second, and third was a toss-up between Pitt-Bradford and Pitt-Greensburg.

The Preseason Player of the Year designation goes to Pitt-Bradford senior infielder Derek Smith.  The 2012 AMCC Player of the Year, Smith earned honorable mention from D3Baseball.Com All-America.  He ranked in the top 10 nationally in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, RBIs, hitting .482 with 7 home runs and 57 RBI.The Preseason Pitcher of the Year honors go to Penn St. Behrend senior righthander Ryan Jacobs.  A 2013 Collegiate Baseball Player to Watch, Jacobs was a first team all conference selection in 2012.  He was tabbed as team’s Most Valuable Pitcher, tying the program's single-season record for strikeouts with 83.  Jacobs led conference in opponent batting average (.218), strikeouts, and wins, and ranked second in conference for innings pitched.  He  was winning pitcher for Behrend in the 2012 ECAC Southern Region Championship

The AMCC kicks off conference play on Wednesday, March 27, and the championship will be May 8-10 at the site of the top seed.  The winner of the tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Senior CF Jacob Stumpf (Big Run, PA/Punxatawney HS) … AMCC 2nd team all-conference … .322 batting average … led team in doubles (12) and home runs (4) … registered .510 slugging percentage.
