 MOUNT ALOYSIUS FAVORED TO WIN
FIRST AMCC TITLE
 


Earning three first place votes each, Penn State Altoona and defending champion Penn State Behrend are expected to compete evenly for the AMCC title in 2013.  Mount Aloysius College and D'Youville College are likely to keep the race among the contenders a battle until the last pitch.

Preseason Player of the Year honors go to Mount Aloysius junior centerfielder Jalisa Westover, the 2012 Co-Player of the Year.  A National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region East Team  selection, she batted .455 with 60 hits and and a league-high 55 RBI.  The Preseason Pitcher of the Year is Penn St. Altoona senior Jackie Smith.  A second team all-conference player in 2012, she pitched 19 complete games, with 6 shutouts and a 16-5 record.  Her 2.10 ERA was the lowest in the conference.  She struck out 88 batters in 153 innings of work.  Smith also pitched the program's first ever perfect game.

The AMCC kicks off conference play on Wednesday, March 27, and the championship will be May 3-5 at the site of the top seed.  The winner of the tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Junior OF/P Natalie Whitman (Lockport, NY/Starpoint/St. Andrews HS) … led the team last season with 33 hits, 15 RBIs, and a .379 batting average … #1 Hawl in stolen bases with 5 … defensively contributed 66 put outs.

Sophomore OF/C Kateland Ball (Hammondsport, NY/Hammondsport HS) … finished with batting average of .372 … slugging percentage of .532 … 19 RBI … 29 hits … speed and judgment made her a key defensive player in the outfield.

Sophomore OF Alexandra Spain (Pittsburgh, PA/Keystone Oaks HS) … among the Redhawks' best with .362 BA, 24 runs, 11 doubles and 27 RBI …  AMCC 1st team all-conference.

Junior SS Mary Gangloff (Buffalo, NY/Mt. Mercy HS) … Contributed offensively with  .383 BA, 20 runs, 7 doubles, 6 triples and 9 RBI … posted a .600 slugging percentage.

Junior CF Mary Kate Bongiovanni (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia HS) … Stepped up at the plate with a .310 BA, scoring 22 runs and recording 13 RBI … sharp glove, posting a .940 fielding percentage.

Junior 2B Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte HS) … AMCC 1st team All-Conference … played 37 games, started in 34 … ranked 2nd on team and 5th in conference for batting average (.437) … tied for 2nd on team with 13 doubles … 2nd on team in slugging percentage (.587) and on-base percentage (.462) … scored 37 runs … knocked in 31 runs … hit two home runs … went 6/7 in stolen bases … made a single error in the field and posted a .993 fielding percentage, the best among the team’s infielders.

Junior OF Lauren Bove (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley HS) … played 41 games and 36 starts … hit .306 … 3rd on team with a .408 on-base percentage … 3rd on team with 39 runs scored … led the team and 2nd in AMCC for steals (16-for-20) … hit three doubles and two triples.
