2012 WOMEN'S SOCCER
PRESEASON COACHES' POLL

 PENN ST. BEHREND, ALTOONA
NECK AND NECK FOR PRESEASON NOD

Defending champion Penn State Behrend and 2011 regular season champion Penn State Altoona finished in a dead heat for first place in the AMCC coaches' preseason poll.  While Behrend was triumphant in the conference tournament last year and advanced to the NCAA playoffs, their Altoona counterparts were undefeated in regular season league play. Both teams will have their eyes on Pitt-Bradford, the regular season runner up in 2011, and a team that is poised to make a serious run for their first league title.

Preseason Offensive Player of the Year honors went to D'Youville College standout Danielle Gehen (left).  The junior forward was named first team all-conference in 2011 when she led the AMCC in goals (16), assists (9), and points (41).  Pitt-Bradford goalkeeper Alisa  Cornell (right) was named the  Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.  Cornell earned first-team all-conference and ECAC South All-Stars honors in 2011, posting a school record 13 wins in net.  She was ranked third nationally in save percentage with a mark of .912, setting a new AMCC record, and 14th in goals against average.  Her 10 shutouts on the year tied Cornell for second all-time in league history as well.  Cornell led the conference in GAA, save percentage, shutouts and shutouts per game.

The AMCC kicks off conference play on Saturday, September 22, and the championship will be Saturday, November 3, hosted by the number #1 seed.  The winner will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
